Industry 4.0 is a revolution based around data, the name is used to identify the current trends of automation and data exchange in manufacturing technologies, including cyber physical systems, internet of things, cloud computing and cognitive computing.

The name put in place to represent the
fourth revolution in manufacturing. Industry 4.0 has evolved from mechanization
in the first to mass production in the second and computer and automation in
the third to now enhancing it all by fostering the traits of a “smart
factory”. The industry allows manufacturers and consumers to improve their
communication and monitoring and more insight into analysis helping them long
term.
Industry 4.0 can be seen in both positive
and negative lights on the creative industry as with the evolving growth in interconnected
device and artificial intelligence, it creates risk of people losing their jobs
and changing the way people work.
Studies from the natural science sector
show that “advance countries are fostering creative industries” in help to
freshen their manufacturing sector, this is all down to the Industry 4.0
movement being able to deliver such services to the industry. For example,
Apple produced the new iPhone X in 2017, bringing out the new technology of the
phone system allowing biometric authentication for unlocking your device,
making payments and when accessing protected data such as passwords, etc. This
being attractive to the consumer as it ensures them that their information will
be safe and stored remotely. This is also such an exciting aspect of the fourth
revolution, not because we are all connecting through phones but because this
service has become so integrated into our everyday lives.
The movement of Industry 4.0 has also opened up the sharing community
of huge streaming services like Netflix and Spotify by providing databases with
thousands of movies, series’ and songs. Netflix have broken the
traditional process of content by bringing out a movie into the cinema and
on-demand at the same time. This
was a huge change for the creative industry as Netflix provides an algorithm
layout meaning “The more information a provider such as Netflix
receives about your favourite genres, actors, directors and watching behaviour,
the better the algorithm gets into shape. It compares your track record with
that of other users who are sharing similar tastes”. This demonstrates the help
that our data provides to business’ as they then use it to provide the
entertainment we want and also builds a relationship with the user as they will
want to continue using the service due to the experiences they had with the
personalisation but also at the fact that you can access your account from any
device, watching what and where you want too.
Industry 4.0 has the granted the power to
technologies to grow and expand a corporation. This is evident through the
benefits provided like having data securely protected to RFID being used in
form of a tag to know exactly how much stock is in a store and tracking all
inventory. This form of security is set to revolutionize the retail industry
with it impacting everything from sales to loss prevention.
In conclusion, Industry 4.0 is the ever-growing
movement that is helping to build society, not ruin it I believe that industry 4.0
is at no harm to society and the only factor I can draw that is a negative
would be the loss of jobs, however with companies evolving through the tech,
new openings arise.
